Chapter of the Day: Read Genesis 1.
Meditate on Genesis 1:31: (NIV) “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good…”
Terry Lynn Nichols received 161 consecutive life sentences for his involvement in the Oklahoma City bombing. One hundred and sixty-eight people, including nineteen children, would lose their lives that day.
In Genesis, we see the creation of the first man. Adam’s sin would deem him responsible for the deaths of every person that would ever exist, trumping a crime even as heinous as Nichols’. Very good are not quite the descriptors that come to mind when pondering the character of these two men. However, that is exactly what we see God describe Adam as in Genesis 1:31.
Genesis 1:31 says, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good…”
Let us not forget the following truth today. Even though God knew that our sinful nature would bring death, He still named us very good. We are called very good not due to our own character but on account of His.
Prayer: Thank you Lord that through your word I discover my character is redefined. I am your very good creation. Help me remember that because you are very good, you have identified me as very good too. Lord let me view others in that light as well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Application: How does the character of God change the way He views His creation?
How does this challenge your view of others?
Memorize Galatians 6:1 ” Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.”
